"Uniquely located in a peaceful and serene" "parklike" setting with a "fantastic" view of a lake and crystal "clean" pool, this spot 40 miles from Chicago (and "accessible to everything") spurs supporters to say it's "more than we bargained for", with "large" rooms, "classy decor", "outstanding" whirlpool and sauna, "great bar" and "friendly staff"; the odd faultfinder feels the bathrooms are slightly "dated" and the "restaurant not up to par", but the majority "would definitely stay here" again.

Location.

I complained to management that there was mold all over the bathroom and they did nothing to correct it. The general manager was standing there.

It used to be the best around, not it is run down and lacking service and dirty.

Good service.

Room had been converted to non-smoking 1 year ago but still smelled like smoke.

Essentially everything was average and what you would expect from a holiday inn. The room did reek of smoke even though it was supposed to be non-smoking. They did change our room for the second night. We had an issue with the partying neighbors who were up till 4 am. The hotel did try to quiet them done but it didn't work. I was told by the manager the next day that they should have been kicked out. While that is great that they realized that, it didn't help that I didn't get much sleep. ...read more
